Yeah, that storm really hit the South hard.
We're more prepared for stuff up North because we expect it every season. But even Boston is shut down, for example. It's more expensive to live up North for that reason (I think. But with the invention of Air Conditioning, summer costs are higher down South, so IDK for sure. Bet it is more here...ice crumbles roads and stuff.
salt eats metal, etc. Our roads are in BAD shape after all this recession and spending reductions and cost increases to fix em.)
Anyway, the South just doesn't have the #of people and resources committed to deal with the sustained snow like that. And Boston isn't even that far South, but they still couldn't deal with it. It's a bad storm. No mass transit, per the news. And they are due for another storm.
So even we Northern states have it rough and we're more prepared.
