Why don't you just reserve some sort of leaf-bagger-mulcher thing at the local rent-all? Then, let them accumulate and just "sweep through" once and clean it all up? Like the lawn-service crews do.

Seems like a lot of work to put up fences, spend weeks with bags by hand, etc.

The raking 'n stuff gets me out of the house, it's exercise. That, however, does NOT mean
I enjoy it.

The fence sends a message to whoever will be taking care of the yard next door (ha!...
"taking care"... I kill me!) that they are bassholes for not cleaning up their own :censored:.
It also shows people who drive/walk by that not everybody "just takes" others' laziness.

Go through this every year.

I have seen - in the distant past - what leaving the leaves there for too long does to the
lawn.

No... if THEY did THEIR part, everything would be cool.

Despite all the gardens, I have no place to put the resulting shreds. All
the gardens are topped with wood chips. Plus, one STILL needs to gather
all the leaves into a pile near the shredder... unless one wants to leave
piles of shreds hither thither and yon around the yard. I don't see a big
benefit of a shredder... and it's incredibly noisy. I like quiet.

Having a service come out... maybe twice... is an option. BUT... if next
door HIRED A SERVICE (as they should... my god... she can afford assisted
living at $6000-$9000 per month), then this annual saga would not take place.

PS: I do have a wood chipper - already - which could do the same thing.
I've tried in the past, but the leaves need to be dry and crunchy. Wet
leaves do not shred. It's electric and I dragged it around the yard, with
bags to catch the debris. I thought it was actually more work than
raking and bagging. So now it sits in the garage, just taking up space.

I think you put it in bags after shredding. Saves bags/work. Need strong bags. You end up with 1/10th the # of bags.

I don't bag like almost all other people. I love seeing bags by the road in
other yards where they are all floppy and saggy, meaning there is a LOT
more room inside. No... I bag... sit/kneel on the bag, stuff more in,
kneel again, stuff more in... etc. Sometimes I need to ROLL the bag
(39-gallon size) to the curb because it's so heavy. So when I say "45-50
bags" I mean 45-50 stuffed-to-bursting-point bags.

I believe @Katmar has mentioned she suffers from the same negligent-
neighbour affliction. I do not believe I'm exaggerating when I say about
75% of my Fall work is because of OTHER people's crap. That's significant.
That's what it all boils down to... fences, shredders, hiring it out are all
results of THEIR laziness. Any suggestions on how to address THAT? It
would fix everything. Caveat: They cannot hear, apparently.

They aren't going to hear you.
Leaves fall.
Wind blows.

Human nature.

Also, the three most important real-estate things....location, location, location.

Make it easy as you can on yourself as you age, Bear. Exercise is good though, so fine if you can handle it. You mentioned seeing stars recently... So take care of yourself. :)

Yep!!! Lazy azz neighbors do NOT rake, therefore, after time and some wind, they all end up in my yard. Makes me crazy. Well, crazier than I already am!!

    Welcome back, Tibs....:toast:

Oreo... T'mato cat down to the right. Real tomato upper right edge. Those plants will come down in about
a week. Peppers in foreground still producing... even one blossom (near squirrel-chewed finial) that will
never make a pepper given how late in the season it is.

OK... back outdoors with me. Later!
