A Good "Tasteful Tuesday" to all!

not too shabby! :D

I notice there is no insulation, so throwing out that idea. I'll probably just go
with the 18-gallon tote nested inside a 35-gallon tote, insulated all around,
with an access port. Like:

I can do that myself.

That's a good idea, too. But the ad you posted did say the upper part is insulated.

Hmmm... yes... that silvery stuff. Appears to be pretty thin. I could just buy a
sheet of styrofoam and add to it. So that's $68 (I'd opt out of the shingles since
it will be under cover already)... plus $26 shipping... 4'x8' styrofoam... and I'd
put it on a piece of plywood.

IDK Bear, you MIGHT be better off getting him inside...or heating it somehow. -20 degrees and he's not going to make it in there, insulated or not. I'm worried that it will give him a false sense of security and he'll take to it, but it's safe lower temp limit is too high for your area. Then again, maybe it works even at -20 as cats have enough metabolism. IDK. I don't think they're den animals so....IDK how that works.

That's me being a worry-wart, not me poo-pooing your good intent.

Morning snails. :)

I like either of the shelters, bear. Hopefully oreo will too (but not the skunks)

I just found out that trap, neuter, and release is illegal here, because we have a "leash law" for cats. It's perfectly ok to trap them and get them fixed, but you're not allowed to release them because letting your kitty roam outside is illegal.

In theory, i like the idea of protecting kitties and birds....but if neighbors can't assist with limiting the feral population, then lots of hungry cats at risk and more birdies at risk (and we know what happens if animal control picks them up- as if they would actually bother)

(ETA, oreo has made it through a winter or two already, yes?)

Yes, CES... he made it through last Winter, which was brutal. No sign of ear-tip frostbite or
paw damage.

Atty... (see above to CES)... I'm thinking SOME shelter is better than NO shelter at all. And yes
to "not den animals". The 'net is full of stories about cats not brave enough to enter a shelter...
but just as many saying they do. The pre-fab one just seems to me to be too complicated for
the cat. The tote one - as pictured - only has one entry/exit port. I don't know if they like
that... too trap-like. But cutting a second port would allow air flow... not good for eliminating
wind.

He has NO intent on coming in and staying in. Found THAT out a couple weeks ago.

Then there is this thing... looks foreboding to me... would probably scare the cat :censored:less...

...and ONLY $153!!!
-3% because I have the card.
93% 4 and 5 stars.

My only concern is that getting him to come inside is a guaranteed WIN, whereas the other is "iffy" at -20.

I'm pretty sure there are stories about feral cats not making it through the winter, and IDK how much time he spent inside on those winters either. And it's different in a group too. So...????
Just throwing :2c: around for thought. The easiest path is the safest too...get him inside and acclimated to it. Then he'll come inside when it's cold.

atty, when it comes to oreo moving inside bear has tried ................ and tried :(

He comes in... 4-6 feet... for wet-food breakfast. I did manage to close the
door (a couple of weeks ago) when he went to investigate the garage. That's
when hell broke loose. I can't leave the door open when it's 0 degrees, snowing
and blowing.

MAYBE he'll change his ways... but until then. Plus, I'm also thinking about the
old lady's feral who now is forced out of her garage. I do know "Mama" and
Oreo get along, so they could share the shelter.

OK... gotta get to Big Box. "Poultry Netting" (ie: chicken wire) and stakes. I'll
also peruse the totes, which they have.

Later!!!
