@ kat - much to my surprise less than 20 states now have an inspection requirement and most of those are on the east coast

That is NOT good at all. Nope. I do not want MY safety compromised by having
somebody's falling-apart rattle-trap heading toward me at 60mph.

Dad expressed concern about the two steps he'd need to use if he had a
potty-call at the house on Christmas. :: sigh :: There is no railing on either
side, but one has a wall.

Off to Big Box and see what they can do for me. The site only shows 8, 12
and 16 FEET railings ... I need only 2 feet. Then cut, stain, mount on added-
cost brackets. I'm thinking of just doing a short grab bar thing... unless they
have some miscellaneous pieces hanging around.

Or I could get a short wrought-iron railing. :: rolleyes :: It would go perfectly
with the smell of sauce and garlic in the house on Christmas. I could accessorize
with clear plastic carpet runners and sofa slipcovers. (Think about it.) Maybe
a piece of alabaster statuary as well.

i see their point and statistics seem to back them up

but i pay my 15 bucks a year and let it be. unfortunately i remember very well from the days of an inspection license pretty much all those cars that failed show up on the road with a brand new sticker from some other station and no apparent work done.
