the washer repair guy should be able to tell and since he'll be at your house anyhow those diagnostic fees shouldn't add much to the bill

repeat visit from washer guy is covered. Sine he didn't find a problem i have 90 days to get him back without an extra charge. Since he seemed to think that it was a problem with the house drain, he didn't want to run a load. we'll do that next time, and i will see if he can take a look at the dishwasher. I think it's the connection, since no water is actually getting into the space that holds the dishes. (I'm tempted to pull it out and see what i can see. If it's just the connection i might be able to do it.....)

If the water-supply hose is just disconnected in back....it would be flooding your whole kitchen right now...'cuz water pressure.
So there must be a valve/hose thing that's not working AT/AFTER the valve.

not a valve.... two rubber hoses under the dishwasher have big-a.s.s. holes chewed into them 
on the bright side i should be able to take the hoses off and take them to home depot for replacement

Yeah, if you can replace them go for it! It's probably/technically a "part" that can be ordered if it's inside the thing. But...another generic hose cut to length should work if it's the same type and diameter, like you say.

I'm planning to turn off the breaker - just waiting for washer to finish or stop, i think they're on separate breakers, but I'm not sure.
I wonder if there's a way to rodent-proof a hose......
