It's a UHF antenna. There's really no such thing as an "HD antenna" in the new-digital-TV context per se.

As to what channels you'd get, the higher the antenna, the better. Also you have to "turn" them in many cases, or have multiple "wings" and a combiner. Most old-style tv antennas got UHF channels, so try that first if you have one.

Bummer! I'm spoiled by HD. My best friend got me an HD tv AND pays for HD cable. Was hoping to find a way around so she would quit paying. And, yes, I DO have the most wonderful friends. :)

What I was saying is that many new antennas these days are labeled "HD antenna". But really, your old antenna from the 1960's can receive the signals just fine. You probably don't need to buy a new antenna just because of the new standard.

I don't have an antenna....:( As you can tell, I am not very educated when it comes to this...

Well, then, you're barking up the wrong tree. The over-the-air stuff doesn't carry that. However, if you just keep a cable subscription for your internet, you can try things like Hulu or Amazon Prime or whatnot for streaming tv episodes from networks.

You won't get all the cable-network feeds though, but you'd get many prime-series. That's how people "cut the cord". For example, IDK what OBG is using for internet.....so he may still have some basic cable, just not a $200 package....

not much i can pick up around here - the 3 major networks, pbs and fox

dh was fussing because some football games  won't be aired through dish (due to our woods we can't get the satellite housing the local channels) so we got an antenna upgrade
but besides that he prefers dish and streaming is, naturally, not an option! :D
