The town sent communications to all properties in the "involved area"
that they are considering building retention ponds, a rec area (9000
sqFt) and a seating/"mediation garden" about 1/8 mile away.
"To alleviate downstream swale flooding". I had to look up "swale".
Everybody here downstream calls it a creek. "Swale".
And everybody here downstream enjoys the ducks, geese and other
wildlife that come around when it "floods".
"Floods"... it's a NO-COST retention pond supplied BY NATURE.
And the "flood" lasts 2, maybe 3 days at most after a good rain.
Squandering of tax money.
I'll be going to the meeting in July.
The "rec area" COULD become a hangout for youth "being kids".
And I do not see people flocking there to "mediate". They're all too busy
being White Trash in their spare time.

Make sure you call for a full scale DNR impact study of the "downstream impact" to wildlife if they disturb the natural flow of things...and ask how much that will cost and how long it will take.
9000 square foot "rec area" is 90 feet by 100 feet. :/
THAT was my very FIRST thought... impacts of wildlife downstream.
I am technically "downstream" from the proposed area - not far at all -
and as I said, neighbours and myself all LOVE the wildlife. Even the toads
that have to hop 250-300' feet to get to the back yards.
It's not like the "floods" lap at our houses.
If it's tax money they have to put it out for bid and when they do that the sunshine law goes into effect,it's a good way to follow the money
Think Gangs,spray paint,drugs,homeless moving in and roaming the neighborhood,late night shootings,and stuff like that.Dang I miss city life NOT !!
It's actually 9750 sqFt now that I really look at the plan. Why
do architects and draftspeople all use that unreadable-to-
laypeople font?
Just spoke with wife-next-door and she's going to the meeting as
well and expressed the same concerns. But she's most upset about
the use of tax money. She goes annually to contest the property
tax increases. Some years she's unsuccessful, some years they knock
1 or 2 hundred off. But she's pretty livid about this.

Most city councils go into closed sessions when they talk about money and where it's going,especially if it's a friend they want to give the money to it's a quick way to find out if the bidding was rigged if you know what to look for
