Replacing my entire firewoodpile ain't no fun but I have it half done. If I have any energy left I'll pull out my computer station and look at the UPS.

I appears that I'm smart enough to hook up a battery but not smart enough to plug stuff in the right side of the dang UPS.
That's OK, Fran. The way the plugs are, it kinda reads like the "top" ones are battery and the group on the bottom is surge-only. But really it's right/left side.
They should have drawn boxes around it or something when they printed it. Those two outlets separated by distance are to allow space for transformer-style plugs (wall warts).
