when you get a chance look here
The virus that could cure Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and more | Northwest Parkinson's Foundation
another wild goose chase or something more? :?:

It has possibilities...there's more talk about the immune system in alzheimer's (AD) these days. I know less about parkinson's mechanisms, but I think the plaques associated with parkinson's are different than those associated with AD. I find it interesting that it's made it to a published book, without more information on the results of any ongoing clinical trials. Since books by necessity lag behind the published data, one would expect to heave heard more about positive results first- though it's possible that i missed it.

Even if the phage treatment works without side effects, no one really knows whether the plaques are causal in AD and dissolving the plaques won't restore function if brain cells have already died.

Because the behavioral symptoms don't usually occur until the brain has lost enough cells that it can't compensate anymore, the trick for both AD and Parkinson's is likely to include early diagnosis. So we need to do at least 3 things: diagnose early, find treatments that can work before the damage is bad, and find treatments that work to help maintain or restore functioning at later stages of disease.

yeah...i'd like to think it's possible, and it can be hard to challenge scientific dogma. alternatively it may be difficult to tailor the phages to attack only the harmful aBeta protein that makes up the plaques in AD. We need our e-coli in our guts, and we need some aBeta protein for normal brain functioning, so if the phages attack too much it could be a problem.

non-specific effects lead to side effects that can derail the most promising of treatments.

Beasties are staring at me, waiting for walkies.....have a great day y'all. :)

Well, did not plan outdoor stuff anyway. "Casino Hag" and I will be doing an outing
to Casino West. (Barring any "Mom Problems" for her, and any "Dad Problems" for
me.)

It snowed 23apr15... so it's really the annual same-old-same-old up here.

G'mornin, snails!

I saw no mention of it in my glance-back...McDonald's has chosen St. Joseph, MO as its "test" market for all-you-can-eat french fries!

Sadly, the first thing that came to mind was, "I wonder when we'll see the first lawsuit with someone alleging McDonald's is at fault for someone's obesity, high cholesterol, heart condition, etc."
