Wegmans unveils project for museum in Virginia
First came the Strong National Museum of Play, then the Smithsonian.
Now Gates-based Wegmans Food Markets has helped to unveil renovated grocery store
exhibits at
three branches of the Children’s Museum of Richmond. The exhibits have
been designed to match the experiences of two Wegmans stores scheduled to open in
the Richmond, Virginia, area later this year. Each features a childsized shopping
experience with play foods, mini grocery cards, check-out counters, café tables and
more. Wegmans donated $150,000 in cash and inkind donations to the renovation work.
The new exhibits opened over the weekend.
The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History opened a similar experience
late last year called Wegmans Wonderful, a 1,700square-foot children’s center geared
toward young children featuring play-based activities.
Wegmans donated $1.5 million for the much larger project in Washington, D.C.
Wegmans opened a similar exhibit several years ago at The Strong.
