I have 'hurricane horizontal bars' on my garage door but I am going to scout out what else I can do.
Maybe just shove what I can up to it...and (don't laugh) outside tie the handle to the hitch on the truck.
The handle seems to be in a stronger part of the door.
At least it's something more.

We're here in Charlotte NC with daughter & sil & dogs Abby & Gussy . Been visiting dh's sister in the hospital 2x daily. Not doing well!
We've been fortunate in road time.....11 hours travel time.... could have been a nightmare had we left later.

Google says you're at 100-ish feet elevation. So storm surge probably not an issue? Right?
I am 30 miles inland from the Gulf, 20 miles N. of Tampa and at about 108' elevation.
I am not worried about rising water.
I am worried about front window, front door, garage door blowing in and the roof blowing off.
That edge of the house has a slight gable (both ends do).
The shingles being blown off is a given...I need the ROOF to stay.
My house is concrete block - 'safe' area is master bedroom walk-in closet.
I have plenty of water and food.
