Nope! Still more to do around here, but I am absolutely enjoying the long-awaited
break in 45-50 bags of leaves from years past. That ONE tree being gone is making
all the difference. 17 (I think) last year, 7 so far this year. :)

    ..........

Good "Muddy Monday" to everybody. In my morning haze, while listening to the
local weather, I believe it was said over 6" of rain in the last 10 days. We had
hours-long lightning storms last night (which Clare does NOT like).

    ..........

No Sheba this morning, and day 2 with no Oreo. Nothing out of the ordinary, but
I always wonder where they are when not waiting for their food. And their little
heated kitty-hut is out and waiting for occupancy.

    ..........

Just one minor rant. I raked the back yard (again) on Saturday, and even went a
couple feet over the property line. It was VERY well-delineated given all the leaves.
The old-lady-grandson comes out (FINALLY) with his big ol' riding mower (nuclear-
powered, by the way) with the discharge pointing OFF his property for the first few
passes. Put all those chopped-up leaves on MY side. So, with him still out there, I
went out with a rake and put them all BACK on HIS side... flinging wildly and much
disdain, along with a few :glare:s. He needs a crash course on "good neighbor policy".

    ..........

Still no word on the bathroom floor.
    Good morning AdventurousArdentAdamantAuthenticAnimatedAmusingAlluring @SilverBear :wub::wub::wub:
    You make my day!

Yeah, some people just don't know any better.

I try to make two "courtesy passes" on the side that has an occupied groomed lot. (the other lot has no house and although it's much better than it used to be (was total encroachment and wild)...it's still not "finished' to the point I worry about grass clippings.

The courtesy pass thing is even in the user's manual.

But the discharge is always to the OUTSIDE unless it is a courtesy pass or unless you're doing "lines" rather than loops, and some people just don't know about it, or I guess they don't care.

I've always left the fallen leaves to rot over the winter...something I read about it being good for the soil and/or not letting unwanted stuff to grow come Spring-time. Maybe that's wrong? *shrug*
leaves are beneficial for grass if you don't mind looking at them; pine needles not so much :?:

I mow them over (basically mulching them up). Not only do I not have to rake, but the same nutrients will be available to the soil to make new leaves next year. But if I just "leave them" they'll kill the grass. Covered grass won't grow, I'd have big dead-spots where leaves accumulate.

It depends on the leaves (tree types) too. Some are worse than others. Those big flat oak leaves will kill all sorts of stuff off. Other leaves actually shrivel up more and crumble almost on their own.

    Yes.

And even a decent layer of mulched leaves can cause damage. Around here, "snow mold"
happens... in the years where there is/are no real yard-clearing thaw/s.

    "
The following steps can be taken to minimize damage in future years:

    • Avoid excessive applications of nitrogen fertilizer in the fall.
    • Continue to mow the lawn at the recommended height until it is no longer actively growing. The taller the grass, the more likely it will mat down and encourage snow mold development.
    • Rake up leaves in the fall.
    • Manage the thatch layer to avoid accumulations of more than ½ inch.
    • Spread out large snow piles to encourage rapid melting. Use snow fencing to minimize snow accumulation in problem spots.
    "

Rainy, chilly, yucky day. Guy came today to fix ceiling where it leaked before the new roof. Has to come back when dry wall sets and drys. Also installed new bathroom fan/light. So glad to have that done. This contractor talked a blue streak, though. Never stopped chatting. I went for my nap and left Marsha with him!!

Really needing those afternoon naps since this time change. Hope my body adjusts soon. Don't think going through a med change makes it easier, either

Good evening and goodnight Snails. Sleep well, sweet dreams and a better tomorrow for all :)
