Just an FYI... That house across the road, the one where "Frisk-E" (2015) was
abandoned... same thing happened. The woman moved out on 05jul and left
her cat. But this cat will not allow humans to get close enough to snag her.
I could get a trap and try that, I suppose. I've been providing food and water
every morning.

What is WRONG with people just leaving their pets behind when they move?

@classwife ... YOU remember "Frisk-E", right?... the salad-tossing cat.

(And the resulting hilarity.) Had to go back to "Part 5" to find it! :)

So if I get a programmable thermostat.......

There's REBATES available from the energy companies. So this is "on sale" for $69.00...

So it pays for itself! And IDK if I can get the rebate from BOTH companies? But even if just one, it's covered.

Now to find out if I have the dreaded "C-wire". Most homes do NOT unless they're recent. Some systems don't need a c-wire though.

    Hmmmmmm...................

The one I'm looking at is pretty basic, but it has AUTO SWITCH OVER from A/C to heat to deal with day/night temp changes, and is 7-day programmable. I don't really care if it has WIFI or if you can talk to it...

Tibs, not sure who is copying who, I am now finished with ceiling in family room and will be painting it today. Kitchen will be next, but needs the "popcorn" removed first.

Carpet to be installed in family room next thursday.

ATTY that sounds like my IDEAL thermostat.

    Morning KC!

Yeah, might be worth checking if Kansas utils have a rebate if you don't have a programmable stat already. And check the instructions (there's a link on the HD page to installation instructions).

    I don't think that one needs a c-wire. :D

For $69, it's already a good enough deal without rebate. I've always been a fan of Honeywell products. I have had two different ones in my own home. I switch out every so often just to keep on top of the tech.

My current one is a Lennox iComfort S30, with every bell and whistle imaginable, and it's my experience that the only time I even look at the app is when I'm showing someone the capability. Once we had a program set, we just left the thing alone and the house is just comfortable. So, in my opinion, the wifi connectivity, and Alexa/Siri/whatever compatibility is just an extra you probably don't really need, as tech cool as it may seem.

That all being said, make sure that you have adequate low voltage wire to operate all functions of your system. It appears that this stat uses batteries, so you can choose whether to use a C wire or not. I would, just to not have to deal with pesky batteries.

The biggest advice I can give is the same advice I give my apprentices. RTFM. Which obviously means Read The *Friendly* Manual. If you need an assist, I can answer questions.

guess i should thank my lucky stars - no popcorn here! ;) and everything but the bay window area has had two coats now. should be able to finish up tomorrow morning!

Oh, how I wish I could say the same. Popcorn ceilings throughout. Not sure the cost to remove it, but I imagine it would be messy and expensive. Otherwise, I would get it done. HATE that stuff.

Had a very nice day. 2 visits from different friends and nice weather, even though rain and storms were predicted.

Good evening and goodnight Snails. Sleep well, sweet dreams and a better tomorrow for all :)
