Good morning, dale and Atty:) I don't drive at all so it's not an issue. I also dislike taking pills. I'm sure the sleep issue will settle down after a while.
Not a good idea to try sleeping pills, either over the counter OR prescription, if you can avoid it. A very slippery slope. Hoping it will settle soon, Frannie :)

No worries. I'm not a pill person at all.

I'm not, either. Only the absolutely necessary ones.
I weaned myself off of sleeping pills several years back. It was NOT easy, but I'm so glad I did. Over the counter alters the brain, too, so I stayed away from them. Have a friend who took them and now can't sleep without them. Plus, most OTC sleep aids have benedryl, which is NOT recommended because of other effects it can have on your body. And melatonin is a very slippery slope, too.
Unisom has 2 different pills, but, unfortunately both contain anti histamines.
Trouble sleeping? Experts say skip antihistamines

neither am i but melatonin might be worth a try if next week you are still struggling
Must have been typing at the same time.
Melatonin CAN help, but also cause problems, too!
Is it safe to take melatonin as a sleep aid?
The problem is, melatonin, being a supplement, not a medicine as such, is not regulated in any way, and there are no universal safe guidelines for dosages, risk factors etc. Studies have shown melatonin content can vary considerably depending on which brand of melatonin you buy off the shelf – so you need to 100% sure of exactly what’s in your supplement.
And read further down, you'll see the cons about it!

    Melatonin CAN help
it sure can ;) my mother took it for years without ill effects!
    from your article:
    Melatonin for elderly insomniacs
In a study of people above 55, a low dose of melatonin helped those with insomnia sleep sooner and better. People felt more rested after sleeping, and more alert the next day. No one experienced withdrawal symptoms, and again there were very few side effects – possibly because melatonin was given for only three weeks.

Melatonin can have great potential benefits- when used correctly. However, it is always important to rule out any health issues that could be causing sleep disturbances before taking it – it would be more effective to treat the actual problem when sleeplessness is just a symptom.

It is also important to remember that melatonin will work best as one part of a healthy sleep routine; that it should be taken for a short duration; and only when absolutely necessary. And it goes without saying – choose pharmaceutical grade melatonin under the guidance of a doctor.

Absolutely, but you have to be SURE it's a true melatonin, since it is NOT regulated and IS a hormone, which CAN cause problems if not used properly and a pure form. Hard to distinguish with all that is out there. JUST BE CAREFUL...
BUT, don't think our Frannie is gonna use it anyway....
