Never mind. It's not a pound cake (which is denser). So it's one form of a "yellow cake". A shortened cake with no other name I guess.
This is why I don't "do" cake.

something's not right there - i do believe this is more like it:
''Pound Cake, along with white and yellow cake, fruit cake and coffee cake are all variations of butter cakes.''
Back home in Philly, the butter cakes were so dang creamy and 'buttery'. They had a flatter appearance than pound cake and were exceptionally moist.
Oh, and we used to get the homemade ones from the Italian Market in S.Philly!

But I think there's also a colloquialism for "butter cake" that is NOT pound-cake and NOT any sortened cake, but is basically a yellow cake made with butter (and yolks to color it yellow).
I'll bet when Gracie says "butter cake" she doesn't mean all those shortened cake varieties. But IDK for sure.
