Good morning NCC.

Morning folks!

I use two spaces at the end of a sentence. It's old school, I'm not naïve, but I am an old fart. You won't see my double spaces here, or on any other post by me or anyone else on ECF. Because, the powers that be...including obviously the people coding the program this forum uses, see fit to change every double space to a single space. And, even though I know they'll be changed to single spaces, I will stubbornly continue to see them on my end! :) At least until I hit the Reply button, my text is easier on the eye and more legible. I'll just have to savor it on my own, LOL.
I do that out of habit too, more often than not.
But for the forum's defense, it potentially saves A LOT of storage space when you consider how much space is taken up by the space character even when it's all compressed. I suppose they could encode a single special-reserved character for a "double-space", and translate it back out later, but they'd have to give up another seldom-used character to do that. Then there's the bandwidth issue after it's all uncompressed...

Welcome to the internet age. I hear the basteds have cookies...

That's a new twist, of all the justifications I've read (a bunch), storage space is the latest. And, with the price of storage today, I find it highly dubious. I've got 59TB total on my desktop (TB, not GB).
Anway, I didn't really drop in to start an argument. As alluded, there's plenty of discussion on this topic all across the interwebs.

But, on a related topic: I received a note from my mom's health provider asking that I stop giving her one medication and resume another. Two sentences, both of them being statements. And, BOTH ending with question marks! What, they're not sure what they want me to do??? Why send me a note in that case? Maybe they should wait until they make up their minds.

By the way, I'm an oldie, but I'm not a ludddite. I've been online for 26-years, and was playing with computers for 15-years before I got online.

Good morning/afternoon SMT. Cute.

ECF remotes the 2nd space after a period. For its own reasons.
Might just be an artifact of the parser removing redundant spaces between words.

There's an associated debate (larger, more abstract scope) that NCC was clowning around about. It's highly contentious in aesthetic circles. You're either a double-spacer, or a single-spacer, apparently. The latter being alluded to in my dark-side quip ;) so you can tell where I stand. Double-spacers FTW!

But I don't expect forums or discord or tweets or whatever to hold to pedantic aesthetics (and NCC probably doesn't either, but IDK his level of concern, can't speak for him) since they're more function-driven than printed media, for example.

ecf removes any kind of spacing ;)
try to center a line and you'll see. what a pain that used to be when we were composing welcome posts in the new vet forum. only way you can make it work is smt's trick ;)

edit: as per classy ecf is not alone!

@AttyPops, my spaces aren't real. They're periods and I made them white. ;)

But it doesn't make the exception for the full-stop, is what I was saying.

No, you didn't literally use those words - but your insinuation is there.
