Holy Crap! Most people won't care much about this but I'm stoked.

So a hobby of mine is game engines and video game development with Unity, since I have an IT/Programmer background, and I like to screw around with GPUs and visuals.

So Unity Tech (the game engine company) has just acquired Weta. They're the Hollywood CG FX team behind such hits as Avatar and Lord Of The Rings. They're working on merging the two things, and making Weta's tools available to all artists/creators.

Most of those tools WILL NOT be real-time, presumptuously. However, as GPUs keep getting more and more powerful, who knows how much of that will be integrated into the real-time stuff. And on the flip-side, we'll see them using the Unity engine to produce non-real-time output, like movies/clips.

Welcome Weta Digital! | Unity Blog

If it's important to u, it's important to us, Atty.:D

Very interesting. It's really incredible what Star Wars was able to do back in the late '70s. Can u imagine what it would have been like with today's technology. Although, this is really cool, I still enjoy a movie without any type of special effect with a well written script. Probably my favorite is 12 angry men. The script and acting in that movie is incredible. And almost the entire movie happens in a jury room. It does help when you look at the list of actors: Henry Fonda, Lee Cobb, Jack Klugman...etc.

had a pleasant surprise this morning. one of my 'fellas' had some free time and came by with a co-worker to blow off the roof, cleaned the gutters, and removed a tree limb that was conducive to that area. maybe next year i'll have some grass there
