Good morning Atty :)

Yeah, I know a factory re-set is not ideal but if all else fails :(

dale, no reset possible till you can log in - as atty said a new installation is possible provided you have the installation discs :(

BEAR:

Here's some other ways. See the 2nd half of the article here:
How to Reset Your Forgotten Password in Windows 10
That probably only works for "local accounts" as it creates another admin account. You could at least back up the data (maybe).

BUT...there's also a link in the article about cracking the password if all else fails. IDK if that will work on Win 10, you should just call Microsoft instead.

I'm not sure I did.
It's just that he's also hand-tied for surfing because he doesn't have his normal system. So I posted stuff.

That whole MS-Account thing sucks.
I almost did what he did once and I KNEW about the MS-Account thing. Every time you play a new game or whatnot it tries to foster that upon you. Grrrr.

They want to force you "Into the cloud".

Neberminds, I just read Poppys post with the link, and it says you can make a new user :D
Yeah. It is trickier than that though. Some data is "protected" by that password. So if it isn't shared data, (particularly if it is encrypted data) if you change the password, you can't get access to the data back.

With luck, he'll be able to backup most of the data though...if he goes that route. But changing the password that way can fubar the data.

Spent over an hour with two first-line customer support people.

Zils and sitars.

I have a case# and direct phone to real tech support.

I have a "new" MS account... but the people did not know how
I could use it to access my PC. The PC boots and takes me
directly to my old account.

Maybe there is some F-key I can press during bootup to allow
me to set up a new account ON the PC.

Grrr.

More later.

And yes... Atty got it right. That game account takes over your
entire PC. BEWARE.

More later.

have you tried changing your ms password by clicking 'forgot password'' and waiting for the 'reset' email? - that, to me, seemed to be the least-complicated approach if you can get to your email account from your tablet .....
