My Mom was from Canada originally. She told me the tree etc had to be down before the start of the new year. I had just turned 17 a month before. My Mom was sick the last day of Dec, and nothing got put away. New Year’s Day she was in the hospital and the next day she died. I’ve never left my stuff up past the end of the year.
It's always been on New Year's Day... growing up. We got a live tree on Black Friday and down it went on the first of the year. Now, it's a fake tree and it goes up about a week after thx giving. I left it up 2.5 weeks after Christmas last year. We'll see what happens this year... but i'm in no hurry.
