my reasoning - as an example, any 2018 car of a certain model and make will carry the same cost no matter who the extended warranty buyer is, afaik

And that is the reason I ask because I was informed
yesterday that a price on an extended warranty for
any ONE particular person is determined by a RAFT
of variables. And is why they could not tell me over
the phone. I, of course, have to go to the showroom.

In other words, two people buying the EXACT same
model and trim level could pay different prices for the
same extended warranty.

I am NOT sure if that's how it is for all manufacturers.

I have a very hard time with that.

To even begin, they want my current VIN. ??? For what?

And, most warranties sold are just ATM’s for whoever is selling them!
MYSELF, I have never lost $$$ on an auto extended warranty.

But, you did say "most warranties", so there's that... fridges,
TVs, computers. Yes, pretty hard pass on those.

Are you trading it in?
Yes... but why would it affect the next car's extended warranty???

(Actually, I'll be calling the manufacturer directly in a few moments
to find out why the dealer cannot give me a price upfront... that's all
I want... simple.)

    No you can't
Extended warranty can be denied - that right there tell us not all warranties are the same.

We/drivers only pay for it, we are not being insured the vehicle is - drivers history is taking into account. For that reason the insurance company looks at the vehicle life's history. The vehicle could have been modified or had routine service neglected during its life. The history would also shine a light on any un-usual repeated repairs on same parts like blown engines - transmissions - axles - Etc. Also it will give the true life's mileage.

So in my opinion it makes perfect sense that there are variables.

That all has zero to do with my question.

    OKC, OK
The extended warranty you are purchasing, it sounds like it’s a third party insurer, they probably want to check the maintenance, accident, any work there is record of on the previous vehicle to determine rate to charge on next one, same as any insurance, how high a risk are you.
