Hello Mr. C. Marshall...

After reading a couple of the DPW-related articles in the latest "Happenings"
newsletter, I have a couple of questions.

The first is about driveway clearing and how privately-contracted plowing
services must keep plowed snow on-property. This is of interest to me
because of year-after-year apparent violations where snow is plowed across
the road and onto my front lawn. The article says "may result in tickets
being issued".

Could you clarify what the determining factor is that would turn that "may"
into a "will"?

Regarding the "Mailbox Policy" article. It is mentioned that we, as owners
or residents, do not have a right to place a mailbox along a public road in
the right of way.

First, I thought my property extended right up to the road. I was unaware
of any right-of-way strip of land between my property and the road. It is
not shown on my property's survey map. What is the measurement of that
right-of-way?

Regardless... if we do not have the right to put a mailbox and post along
the roadway, will the mail delivery people be accommodating and provide
walk-up service to the house? Or, if I placed the mailbox some place along
the inside of my driveway, would they pull in and deliver in that fashion?

This was all news to me... right-of-way and that we have no "statutory
or legal authority". I want to remain within the law. How may I do that
and continue to receive at-home mail service?

Thank you!

Maybe I should look into something like this:

It's bass-ugly... and I've seen similar ones. But those had incredibly LONG
arms on them. I guess it will depend on the size of the "right of way"...
the one that Mr. C. Marshall will tell me about in his reply.

(You did notice how polite and courteous that letter was, right?)
