As long as you're up, if the skies are clear you can go look for the Orionid meteor shower...
For those interested:
(South western sky for you Tibs, probably...but google it. Some sites have said south east, maybe if you're in FL or whatever ) Look for the 3 stars in orion's belt...and look at the general area, not those specific points.
Should see 10 to 20 meteors per hour. Get some bug spray, a lawn chair, maybe warm coat and a blankie.

been outside twice already with reggie, atty! it's pitch black and no sign of meteor showers here

I saw 2 meteors, Tibs.
Then I came back in. Some high clouds and too much light pollution from the city, but managed to see some. Takes about 1/2 hour for your eyes to adjust to the dark.
