Strong winds this afternoon and evening. Blew down some branches, took down a tree on the Interstate down the road, but we are safe and have power so far. Supposed to die down around 8, This is the second horrible wind this week. Time to start thinking about a generator, perhaps? Wonder how the newer battery operated or solar ones are?
Have a peaceful, windless evening folks, and by windless, I mean OUTSIDE. If you've got wind IN the house, it usually can't be prevented and can cause one to wrinkle their nose.....

    Good evening snails :)

    Is that close to you?
Parts are about a 45 minute drive, the far side can take up to an hour and a half.

I read that! Glad you're OK. Hope the recovery/restoration efforts go well.
I guess there were some in Indiana and Illinois too. Luckily, thank God, we didn't have too bad a time in MI. Some areas got hail. I guess the Great Lakes buffered some of it, or it was simply "more to the South".

Back home now, hi snails :)
They reported 5 deaths around that area and over 50 people hospitalized.

We had tacos tonight, was good. :)

I got two small generators and extra batteries that can extend the power. First thing you want to do is figure out what you need on and for how long. It can get very expensive and if we have bad weather most likely there is no sun to charge it up with. 2000 watts of power sounds like a lot but its NOT!

In my opinion all we need in a black out situation is lights, small radio coffee maker and maybe a small fridge for meds if needed.

Have any questions I'll be happy to give my person opinion backed up with facts I've learned during last few years.

    Good morning snails.

    Good morning snails.
Thanks, MM. Lots of good info there. I should probably talk to a professional. Would that be an electrician, heating guy or what? There are SO many options out there now.
I would want something to keep fridge, a few lights, furnace or AC and maybe a small computer on. My health requires the AC in summer.
    Thanks again for the tips!!!

    Good morning, Snails! :)

    Good morning, Snails! :)
Your talking big bucks with AC and fridge. With Fridge checkout your home-owners or renters contract on food spoilage // power-outage. If its covered why spend thousands on generator just to keep fridge on when the food is covered.

You won't be able to do what you want with a battery generator you need a full roof solar array and house system.

You're right in thinking power-outage are coming maybe not this year but soon - its simple logic. We are being forced away from oil towards green energy while our power grid is not able to deal/handle it right now or in the future. If I was a electric company using oil would I invest big bucks in the power grid today knowing I won't be around in years to come I'll invest enough to make it look good but not much more, logic says the power grid will collapse one day. New companies are getting the federal money to build solar farms and wind turbines. In with the new companies, out with old companies.

Far as advice I suggest look around your area see who got solar panels on their roof and knock on their door 99% of people love brag or cry to anyone who willing to listen.
