I can relate. In the town where I used to live, the power would go out for hours without warning on a clear day. My dd and I called it "squirrels in the grid". A storm could knock out power to the entire city for days, the longest being 4 days. Hurricane Harvey knocked it out for 3 days, and it was only a category 2 or 3 by the time it got to us. What was worse was when the water was off for 3 days because someone at the water company put the wrong chemicals in it, and they had no checks and balances to prevent it. There was no going to a hotel, unless you went out of town to one, because these power outages and water outage affected the whole town.

Where I live now is much better. The power rarely goes off. When it does go off, it comes back on, either immediately or within an hour. In fact during that freezing weather we had a couple of years ago, people in town never lost electricity and those out of town would have it go off every few hours. I never lost electricity. My mom said it was because in town people who lived near emergency services like the uospital, fire station, police station, weren't going to have scheduled blackouts like the country people.

MI is full of wildfire smoke out of Quebec Canada. Worst air quality since they started keeping track around 1980. Chicago in same boat.
Looks like fog, but it isn't. Stinks. Surprising how much it can cover MANY states. Will start to dissipate tonight and still be around for tomorrow or later, but lessened as various weather fronts move along. It is recommended that everyone stay indoors when practical. You'll see it in the various news sites.

Well, it's that time folks. Goodnight snails, sleep well all :)
