I now have a huge pile of split firewood in the yard to pick up and pile but no desire to do so.

i think t'mato still anxious to scooch out into the yard is a good thing!

He's exhibited a number of those all the time (eg: difficult (no) jumping, lameness,
abnormal gait). He's been venturing further and further away from the house, and
when he stops to rest, he will NOT face the house or respond to my calling his name.

I gave him some of the pain med (in the lawn of the old lady's property) and he just
got up and walked further away. I carried him back to the deck, which he promptly
exited. Projecting... he's associating the house with pain or discomfort.

Anyway... poopies in his litter box. But we did not witness WHICH cat did the doodie.
It could have been Ty-grr since he's been getting at T'mato's laxative-laced food and
that new Royal Canin dry food.

i'm so sorry, bear! and while i don't know if those tales are correct my neighbor swears he's seen it with two of his cats. i know you'll keep a close eye on t'mato ..........

So sorry you have to endure this, Bear. It's such a difficult time trying to decide what is best. I have always believed that when quality is gone, it's time. He may be distancing himself from you because that's what cats sometimes do. They just wander off. I know you will do what is right if he lets you....(HUGS)

The area is officially now in the "severe drought" category.

When the AC kicks on BEFORE 08h00 (around here) then you KNOW
it's hot out there.
