Awww, Tibs, I'm so sorry to hear that. Let's hope he will surprise you and do well. Physical therapy may be rough on him, for sure, but, sometimes people surprise us with their inner strength and will. Hoping for the best outcome, Dear Tibs....(((HUGS)))

They may use different techniques for his case, worse comes to worse, they can work the joint and muscles even with him in bed. But I bet they strap him in a harness or something that will catch him if he falls...so that he can't fall on it again. Anyway, they can adapt their methods to his individual needs.

Take heart, Tibs! Give him positive vibes and tell him to speak up and ask questions!
