Have not been posting much due to an amazing amount of pain the
right hand. Not sure what I did to it (may have been the two days
of shoveling last week and doing something (?) to set it off). Using
the mouse or even typing was excruciating. But it's feeling better
today... and whatever it is may be going away. I was almost at the
point of calling the doc.

Sounds like you cramped it up from shoveling. Glad it's feeling better.

Try pickle juice if muscle cramps. (Mom swears by it)

That needs medical diagnosis.
The reason is that medications can stop or slow joint damage if it is arthritis or something. At best, if it goes away now it's still an unsolved mystery. It could just be exercise strain from shoveling. But if it doesn't go away fast, or it comes back, see the doc.

not a good day here - dh fell again and pretty much cracked all of the ribs on his left side. heading back to the er where they are now doing a cat scan to rule out lung damage
laterzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! but not sure when i'll get back, been at the er since 10am

This can't keep happening. Time to give them hell about making sure he knows all the options (wheel chairs, whatever). They should be talking to him and insisting TO HIM that he uses something with support.

So get on them to get on DH. Even if DH is being stubborn. Let them be the bad guys.

(Yeah, I know, .... out Atty. But I'm just concerned for you and DH and THEY have responsibility in this...that's what they get paid for, part of the job to make him aware of all repercussions and to suggest best practices.)
