Happy anniversaries to Tibs and Katya (she's "Tweety", right?)!!!

A routine visit to Dad's (new) cardiologist turned into an unexpected
gigantic hassle. It was determined that one of his pacemaker leads
needs to be replaced. (Will get back to that in a bit.)

So, the usual 10-minute check-up turned into over 90 minutes. (Co-pay.)

His doc wanted a chest x-ray, so we had to go to the on-site walk-in
imaging place, adding another 30 minutes. (Another co-pay.)

That caused us to miss closing time for the bloodwork lab, bloodwork
he needs for a urologist appointment next Wednesday (keep that date
in mind...)

The cardiologist wants him to meet with the surgeon, so he hands us
an appointment card that strikes out 3 times...
...day of week
...time of day (like 8am)
...location (totally across town)

Another instance where there was NO asking about day/time/place
preferences. So, after mentioning preferences we get the close
location, a BIT after noon... but next Wednesday (see above re:
urologist). I think we can manage both appointments.

Anyway... I did not think lead replacement would be anything major.
When he had the pacemaker placed originally, it was an overnight.

Now that I read about lead replacement, he can look forward to about
one week in the hospital. I will NOT mention that to him because he
will just go ballistic. (MAJOR co-pay and his general hatred of hospitals.)

I'm not sure when this hospital thing will happen (the procedure), but you
can bet your estate it will be one of the three days in March that are
earmarked for OTHER doctor appointments. Or during a return to
traditional Winter weather and snowy roads.

He's in no major danger and this is not super-ultra urgent (otherwise he
would have been admitted yesterday), but something that "should be done
in the near future".

Long post when I SHOULD have just said 3 words:

"...all went well..."

:: sigh ::

original medicare? :(
No... his supplemental plan. The "hospital stay" thing has gone
up up up over the years and I believe that for 2017 it's a $500
co-pay for each day 1 through 5. That could be $2500. While
it may not be a lot to US... his income is ONLY social security.
It's major to him. Then there is the surgeon co-pay, anesthesiologist
co-pay... but I have to say I've seen no pattern at all in those.
He's had things done with no bills for any of the people-things,
but others where everybody had their hand out. So, I don't know
or even TRY to understand it.

surprising - i looked at those when i had to choose for dh and thought the amounts were reasonable. still, with dh's parkinson's diagnosis i decided to play it safe and go with medigap f. sure glad now that i did ;)
