Mornin' AttyGrumph.
Morning.
Sound bad-a.
But if you're worried, you know you can get two new wheels (just opt for the bigger ones if you're worried about traction, the smaller if economy). Or use the smaller set for summer driving economy, larger for winter tires...is that what you're thinking? I'd go that way if it was me...summer smaller, winter bigger, and keep them the same. I'm not racing or anything and then the spare fits. I'd guess you need to swap spares when you change over for the season. Right?
But having staggered is popular I guess. Considered an optimization/tweak. Eh?
I'd guess it depends on the conditions. In general, the more surface area you have, the better traction unless you're driving through a field of snow. You guys down there mostly get a little snow and/or ice. So I'd be careful of what you pick...Actually, I've read a narrower/smaller wheel-tire combo is preferable as it's better at cutting through the snow.
