Atty mentioned a "livid" S.O. and I'll add hub's lividness to the fray.
His health insurance COMPANY called him and hounded him about
a long (long long) overdue first colonoscopy. And so here's the deal:
When you sign a HIPAA form and allow "health information" to be
shared between your doc and others, one of those "others" ends up
being your health insurance COMPANY. He is so so so ...... off.
He's NOT discounting the importance of getting one... but why the
COMPANY had to be informed has put him on a rampage.
Thinking back a few months ago when my pharmacy informed my
doc (and then they called asking questions) about my ceasing
Wellbutrin... THAT is probably fallout from the HIPAA agreement
I signed with the pharmacy.
I think we're BOTH going to amend those agreements. The ONLY
sharing I want is "specialist >>> primary doc". NOTHING else.
As I mentioned: not dismissing the importance of having <insert procedure here> performed. They use that info for rating purposes to project costs. They also know long-term conditions (coded as HCC if your Doctor/hopsital lets you see that info on "your page"). And yeah, they want to know procedure due-dates as well, because they PAY for them. And they can be proactive FOR your benefit too...making sure you get screened so "they" catch stuff earlier (which is better for you, and cheaper for them).
