To add... the rep told hus that a memo was received from his primary.
It was not because they mined their data and found lack of mention re:
colonoscopy. I'm not sure THAT process could be stopped.
He needs to be less phobic about it and get it done. It could save his life if they find anything. And polyps can become cancerous. It's good preventative maint.

It's a PITA though ;) (I crack me up). The real bummer is the day before and drinking all the stuff and cleaning your system out. The procedure itself he won't even remember.

That's pretty much what I told him.

I'm familiar with day-to-day "events" in the bathroom re: him. I'm
fairly certain I do NOT want to be in the same COUNTY as him on
"prep day".

And yes... that Suprep stuff is pretty damn vile. It's the only reason
I absolutely dread the next one. (Well, that and the inconvenience of
the whole thing.) Since then, I have read a few hints re: The Stuff...
... be sure it is ICE COLD
... use a fat straw to bypass taste buds
... substitute a complementary non-carbonated soft drink for the plain water

If you do the research VERY carefully (lots of false data out there), you will find that the easier tests such as FOBT, Cologuard, and a few others that are NOT invasive as just about as accurate as colonoscopies. Had one,(colonoscopy), which left me very ill for several weeks), will NOT have another, but do get checked EVERY year through FOBT. :)

The thing about it, Katmar, is that if they find any blood in the stool, they have to do a colonoscopy anyway and remove any polyps. And they also need to check for other things, like diverticulitis or ulcers or other conditions.

Colon cancer is only one concern, albeit a big one. It's a common killer. This procedure is OK because in many cases they remove the polyps at the same time as they're doing the text. It's a 1-2 punch...one process, and fix-at-the-same-time.

IDK why it made you ill. That's surprising.

It's what took Hus #1 away at 49 in '93. (But his condition was an inherited, life-
long ordeal: Familial Adenomatous Polyposis )

My doc says I should do it every 5 years because my Dad >>>had<<< polyps (none
found in his last two procedures). This was year #5 and doc did not even bring
it up. If he did, however, I would have mentioned the options @Katmar listed
    as a first step.

IF they find blood, they can do other tests BEFORE a colonoscopy, and, that's an IF they find blood. CT scans can check for diverticulosis, ulcers (also endoscopes) and most intestinal disorders. CT can even show cancer of the intestines. It made me ill because they almost perforated my intestine, (which is a risk, so shouldn't be surprising) had an infection, pain, nausea, and was quite possibly the start of my severe anxiety. I'm not saying NOT to get one. Just saying there are other ways. The research is there. Just have to look. I would NOT try to talk anyone out of one, though, Atty. It's just not for me. And I DO believe that people with a family history probably, and I will only say probably, should have one every so often. That's my story. Agree to disagree, my friend...:)

Also, it's NOT OK. It's an invasive procedure, with anesthesia AND pain meds by IV. I'm all for the most conservative measures FIRST and foremost! If you look at the percentages, you will see that not that many more cancers are found than with using less invasive testing.
