The results from hubs Cat scan of last week

4.3 cm mass in the caudate lobe of the liver and also involving segment 4A of
the left lobe. There is associated dilatation of the left biliary radicals and
biliary radicles subtending the right lobe of the liver posterior segments. The
portal vein is compressed by this mass. I do not see any other liver lesions. No
definite metastatic disease elsewhere. However the adrenals are somewhat nodular
and there is trace ascites in the pelvis both of these findings are nonspecific.
This is certainly neoplastic in origin and either a high suspicion that this is
a Klatskin-type biliary tumor. Although the findings are nonspecific and
metastatic disease is certainly in the differential.
Further workup should include a formal CT of the chest. Tissue diagnosis could
be obtained by CT guidance. At some point a PET CT may be warranted.

Oh, Frannie, I am so sorry. The good news is that this CAN be cured surgically, depending on the stage, which you will NOT know until a biopsy is done. Actually, malignancy can ONLY be diagnosed by biopsy. Scans and tests can show what is there and what it may be suspicious for. So there is still a great deal of hope. We will all be hoping for the best for hubs. Try to hang in as best you can. This DOES explain his belly pain, even if it's a benign thing. Sending warm hugs and tons of love....

Good morning to all:) No news yet. Not sure how long the mobile unit takes to get results to the dr. May have to go to a radiologist first. IDK

All these tests and dr visits aren't giving hubs any pain relief. His pain meds give him relief for 2-3 hours but he can only take them every 7-8 hours. Any sooner and they just make him sick.

PET scan is 99.9% sure of liver cancer. Biopsy for the 5th. Location not operable.
Frannie.....just hang on!! There's not much any of us can do or say to change things, but we are here for support if and when you need us. I hope they can find something to help hubs' pain. Ask about palliative care. This is NOT the same as hospice, like a lot of people think. This is a separate team of doctors and nurses who deal with side effects of an illness or treatment. There is so much they can do to make him comfortable while he is going through all these tests and whatever treatment they decide on. Palliative care has become invaluable to people. They used to associate it with a "hospice" like thing, but it's totally separate. I know of several people who are making use of it as they go through chemo, and they swear by it. And when they are feeling better, the palliative team makes their exit!! So much love and good wishes to you and hubs...
