Good day and good afternoon, Snails.
Hope this finds everyone (and yours) as well as possible.
Just thought I'd pop in with something that sounds like "good news". Seems
like almost everyone could use hearing of SOMETHING/ANYTHING "good".
Took the Ride in this morning to have 4 snows removed... 2
thrown out (2007s),
2 new all-season and 2 new-from-last-year all-seasons put on. Plus oil and filter
change. Plus investigation into a sheet-metal-clanging noise.
After about an hour, I get beckoned into the work bay area. That's NEVER a
good sign.
The steering shaft (and coupling) is shown to have a bit of "play"... which did
not surprise me. But, it's an inspection point and would not pass (in July).
BOTH control rods and ball joints are also worn. Not urgent, but need
replacement.
As far as the clanging noise, 2 exhaust system hangers rusted away from the
pipes. (This follows a 2-year-ago incident where 1 hanger broke and I had to
retrieve a muffler and piping from an expressway.)
So, while they were finishing with the tires, oil, and hanger welding, I investigated
replacing the exhaust with the SAME (10 year-old) system. Borla. Looks good,
sounds great.
300 SRT-8/ Magnum SRT-8/ Charger SRT-8 2005-2010 Cat-Back Exhaust ATAK part # 140407
$1,566 for the exhaust. And the shop quoted $250 for install.
The ball joints and control rods: $650
The steering shaft and coupling just under $400
$2,866 total.
When I got home, I thought WAIT A MINUTE!!!... and looked over the
lifetime
warranty I have on that vehicle.
The control rods, ball joints and steering things will be repaired (at a dealer) for
a $50 deductible. (Next Thursday.)
I then also recalled a lifetime thing with the aftermarket exhaust, so I looked it up.
Yep. "1,000,000 Mile Warranty". I called Borla and asked a few questions. All they
need are a few pictures and copy of the purchase invoice. The rep said it '"sounds like
the problems would qualify for the warranty" because NOTHING should EVER need
repairs or welding. So,
IF they say OK, they will ship an entire new system under
warranty. I'd have to pay for the install.
If all goes according to plan, that's $300 (total) instead of that $2,866.
So, I go back this Friday for the shop to lift the Ride so I can get a few pics.
.....
The weather here still yanks <edited out so to not offend Geoff>..
