mine do well in a window with afternoon sun all in all though they are pretty adaptable as long as you don't overwater them

Anybody know if African violets are hard to grow?

Quite easy when you follow some basics.

Leaves don't like to be wet, so use the saucer that comes with the plant, fill that with water and let the plant absorb from the bottom. When the soil feels moist drain the remaining water from the plant saucer.
They like a high humidity environment, so a bathroom or kitchen is good.
They like filtered sunlight.
Deadheading spent blooms at the nodes encourages more blooms.

frannie, take gracie's advice with a grain of salt - you know she's a perfectionist when it comes to flowers! i have never watered from the saucer but i do keep the water away from the leaves
