Frack.

I think my UPS (uninterruptible power supply)...surge suppressor + battery backup, just fried. Going to try to "reset" things, but I'm not optimistic. Posting here first, in case I go bye-bye. ;)

Fortunately it didn't take out any hardware (like the internet router). I just had to move some power cords off of the battery backed-up side.

Grrrrr. They're 60 to 80 bucks. I can get a smaller one for 42 bucks. I don't HAVE to have one, but I really want it because the phone goes through the internet router and if there's a power failure I want phone access. I can buy a backup battery for the router, but it's hardware specific and I'd rather use a general purpose one.

Grrrr.

What do you need to get to protect phone that you get from cable company? Does that make sense?
Hope you didn't fry anything, except maybe some eggs :)

I use a "cable modem" and get phone via the cable company (the cable modem has phone ports on the back).

It's cheaper to bundle the services and use Comcast for phone + internet + cable. Reduced the phone bill expenses.

Anyway, that cable modem has a port for a battery backup, but the battery is specific to the cable modem. So if I ever upgrade it, I MAY need a different battery. And they have a 1 year warranty.
Xfinity Voice service will not operate during a power failure without a backup power source. A backup battery for Comcast-provided modems can be purchased from Comcast at any time. These batteries are specific to each Xfinity Voice modem model and prices currently range from $35 to $70, plus tax. Your purchase includes a one-year warranty, eight hours of standby time and monitoring to determine when you need to purchase a new battery. If you select this option, battery performance will be diminished if not kept in dry conditions within a temperature range of -4 degrees F to 140 degrees F (-20 degrees C to 60 degrees C).
(Buy a Phone Modem Battery for Your Xfinity Voice Service)

For that same 35 to 70 bucks, I can get an external UPS battery backup instead...that's GENERIC....and you can plug anything into it, and it has surge suppressor tech too for non-battery ports...so I can protect the routers and anything else I want plugged into it. IDK about run-time differences, though. But meh.

    Example:
SX650G - PC Battery Backup - Product Details, Specs, Downloads | CyberPower

Most people have cell phones as a backup anyway. ;) But I still like having the power backup for the cable modem+phone. That's also why I have one old-style wall-phone (not cordless).

My laptop screen faces the back yard.
It has a mirror like reflection sometimes...
    Anyway...
Something caught my eye so I turned around to see what it was.
It was a big deer !
It was watching me and then it took off !
Really odd to see one this time of day, I usually see them about 10PM

Hi Classy. I have a whitetail deer that come here, usually in the evening. I'm pretty sure that it was the fawn of a doe that used to come around here, until she hurt her leg and ended up limping. That's usually a death sentence, when it happens to wildlife.

Oh, how we love to see the family that grazes every night between 5 and 6. That's also the time the hummers come by for their second feeding. So peaceful and serene.

Have to sign off early tonight.
So good night and enjoy the rest of the evening!
