Wow. Best buy did a good job of shipping, but their estimates suck.

I ordered the CPU cooler Monday. They estimated it would get here next Tuesday.
It's on the truck for delivery today (this Wed).

So maybe by tonight I can unload the CPU temp monitor I'm running now. ;) Back to slight-overclocking.

as i said i use att and got my hot spots through ebay ;) buying them from the provider direct is usually more expensive and lots of ebay sellers offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee
Exactly how many "hot spot(s)" does one need? Is it because your home
is a mansion-esque multi-10K-square-foot place? Is it because the word
"spot" is quite literal and one needs to be within inches of one?

See, I'm quite uninformed about this stuff. As time goes on, though, I'm
beginning to believe the theory that all these "waves" out there now are
detrimental to our physical and mental well-being. It's hard to believe all
that "stuff" simply passes through us without some kind of (long term?)
ill effect.

you need one ;) the wifi from a hot spot carries ~ 50 ft and you can connect from 5 to 10 devices depending on the model you choose. i have 2 mostly because i want a backup in case something goes wrong with one of them. isn't there anybody you know who has one and would let you test it in your location? some verizon stores would give out loaners here to see if you're satisfied before buying. just don't mention you intend to replace your home internet with it ;) for my location att was the better choice but lots of people swear by vz

capability example - i leave mine plugged in in the kitchen and have no problem downloading a new book from kindle on my tablet upstairs in the bedroom. kind of like the modem you have now but instead of the dsl connection it's a cellular connection.

kind of like the modem you have now but instead of the dsl connection it's a cellular connection.

I was JUST asking some "tech-savvy" friends about this 2 weeks ago. All I
got back was pooh-poohing about "no such thing as unlimited data without
severe throttling" and lots of other stuff I did not quite grasp. :: duh me ::

The consensus was I/we should just dump the DSL and go for cable. What
we would save by giving DISH the heave-ho would more than pay for the
THREE X price jump from DSL to cable. We're grandfathered into a $23/
month DSL plan for the the highest speed offering. And we get such dismal
speed because we're almost last in the DSL service area. Another 2500 feet
more and we would not even be able to get it. It degrades over distance
    without a switching facility.

But then I/we get into a very VERY splintered system where one service
has this and another service has that and a third service offers other stuff,
programming-wise. You know who could make a LOT of money?... someone
who can come up with ONE APP that pulls all the services together in ONE
spot... I only see a LOT of app-surfing that would be even more tedious than
the cable "program guide" we now know.

Until we make the jump, we'll deal with buffering.

I had to strike out that bit of paranoia and conspiracy theory.

I'm not QUITE that bad... yet.

You can afford cable, Bear, if it's offered. Go for it and you won't care about all that crap anymore. I know, it hurts to pay money to "big cable", but hell, the cable connection is usually full goose broadband. Like 120 mb download, or something. Maybe more. And big enough data limits that you don't have to worry about it.

    Hi snails.

Hi Fran, Dale, Gracie. Night Tibs.

    CPU is running cool! :D

    Goodnight snails. :)
