Now, THAT'S unusual. Was he treated at a Cancer Center??? I've never heard of NO chemo at all. Could be wrong, I'm sure.
sort of - the regional hospital does quite a few of those per year and was in network with his insurance. his preferences were out of network and no appointment was to be had for weeks and weeks .......... sigh

no chemo beforehand and still recuperating 5 months after. nothing works like it did before. very weak and while he is now able to eat almost like he used to his body is not getting the calories and nutrients. on the third try with yet another enzyme.
Has he tryed Zenpep? Hubs has to take that for his pancreas and it works well.

The pain ,Atty. The worst he's had yet.
Sure hope it eases. I wish he would take it before the pain gets too bad. Works much better and faster that way. Hopefully, the radiation does its job and he will have relief. So sorry he's going through this, Fran....and you, too. Watching someone you love in pain is no fun, either....(((HUGS))) to you both!

Good evening and goodnight Snails. Sleep well, sweet dreams and a better tomorrow for all :)

From what I read (IDK what patch you might be using)...it can take a day for the skin to saturate and fill with the medicine.

I also read that the "Fen" type patches, when used as directed for indicated uses, have a relatively low incidence of addiction. The people that use them the wrong way, particularly for the wrong reasons, can get addicted. But they're abusing them.

The point is that these medicines, even if they're opioids, have a purpose. They're made for people in your DH's situation. So lecture him a bit, eh? ;)

Hugs and wishes to you both. I knew he'd use one (EDIT: Or the oxy) when it was really needed. Being to stoic can ruin his days, and who wants to do that? The doctor can adjust the dose if he thinks it is too high.

Also, you may have local hospice services that are paid by insurance, and they can help with this type of thing. You don't have to be alone in this IF you want help.

Sorry in advance for butting in and being pushy. (( ))

Seems Frannie's hubs is stubborn. Imagine that!!! Rather than hospice, maybe @FranC could talk to onc. about palliative care. He should NOT have to suffer like this and they work with him to find the right combo of meds that make him feel better without all the side effects and also allow him to continue treatment. With hospice, all treatment stops. Palliative care is used by folks who can even be cured. They are a team of specialists that deal ONLY with the symptoms of the cancer or treatment. They are awesome. I know hubs doesn't want that, but if he understood that it's NOT hospice, and they can help him so he doesn't get sick from pain meds, maybe he would be more receptive. :)

let's be hopeful, frannie! markers were still fairly low but i have no idea how painful that spot on his hip can turn. already you're saying it's worse than anything before. did the dr say how soon radiation might be ease the pain?
It could be a month before any relief on the bone but the pain that's so bad in his stomach.
