surely that's a medigap plan and plan f which takes care of everything medicare does not pay. and that answers your question below ;) at least, nowadays
Well, if Dad goes into hospital, he still has a co-pay (don't know
the exact amount, but it's high, for him, per day) for the first 5
days.

And the way they shove you out of the hospital as soon as you
can breathe on your own, he's certainly not going to get a totally
free Day 6 and onward. But, that's a different topic.

They can keep their nasty fingers OUT of "unrealized income".
If you saw my post in the thread, you'll know I don't think that part would fly.

They might have a transaction fee of some sort. Or tax dividends on the corporate side BEFORE they are paid out.

I do more or less agree with K, though, that the employer has to have some skin in the game. You can't just push the whole burden on the working class, particularly when you're holding wages low in a "race to the bottom". So all the profit-takers and owners-of-business shouldn't just be able to "take the money and run" and not pay a fair share of the burden.

Nope to even that. See, I (and Mr. Money Man) did a LOT of pre-
planning and modeling during YEARS leading up to calling it quits
on the corporate side. To have them (whoever "them" may be)
simply come along and start draining funds behind the scenes is
NOT acceptable.

Tell me that it's the up-and-coming young'uns - and that I would be
"grandfathered" into the old system - and you have a deal.

I ain't going back to work at 70 because of "them".

if they mandate 14.x% of my income "Gets taken out and goes somewhere"....that's a tax.
not 14%. it's 7% the employer pays the other half. i don't think anybody here who has insurance taken out of his paycheck considers it a tax ;)
With SS, it's an annuity
they got that too at 9% per employee share but benefits are higher
Go look for the fairly recent post that had one example-plan-bill (must have failed).
They taxed incomes, unrealized-income too (from investments), redirected existing revenue, added increased taxes for small businesses and people (progressive taxes), increased taxes on the top 5% of earners, etc.

But they covered everything with no co-pays. Had limited dental, etc. All paid for.
i find it strange that germany can do that all with 7% of payroll contribution :?:

Whatever they pass, it won't be retroactive.

However, there's probably an increased tax on capital gains...(as there should be)

Wait until the single-payer entity actually negotiates drug prices and service fees...and THEN we'll find out what it will cost.

400 to 600 for an epi-pen? no. Just no.
Etc.

Be we'll be able to buy from foreign countries too.

What we really need is campaign finance reform to get all the big-money-special-interests out of congress.

Yes and he has the barest-of-bones plan... from either of the two providers.
The other plan (from both providers) includes out-of-network for the jet-setting
seniors who travel the world in their last days. It's the ONLY difference. Two
plans, both providers. One in-network, one out-of-network. That's it!

Don't like it, pay 20% out of pocket. Oh well!!! It's the way your frail bones
crumble!

Why?

The current tax on cap gains is probably a variable used to model
a retirement decision success or failure.

Again, grandfather me. Pick a birth year when this new stuff all
kicks in and I'll (for ONE) be happy. Make it post- '56, just to be
sure.

Package due today, still no status update (just "shipping label printed"). In Texas...
Nothing on porch.
Getting worried...
Possible FedEx hasn't arrived here yet.
you better call, atty! while it might have possibly escaped the pick-up scan somehow there should have been other scans along the way. :( this does not bode well!

I just got off the phone with customer service. ;)

The order was placed on the 10th.
The "we're shipping your order" email was on the 14th, due to arrive today.
No status updates from FedEx. No package on stoop.

So, I called. The order is probably sitting in the warehouse awaiting something. So I told the cust serv guy that they could partial ship if they need to. So it's NOT FedEx's fault, it's Bed Bath and Beyond. I must have gotten snagged up in the "Beyond" area! :p

They'll try and give me a call tomorrow with an update.
Grrrrrrrrrr.

ah hem, my foot! :D capital gains taxes should be abolished!
I'll go with that!

I'd also be just fine with leaving them as they are for those of a certain age (as
explained above).

For the "Millennials" or whatever their kids are called, yeah... gives 'em time to
plan accordingly.

Doughnut holes are not always delicious.

It's killing the "American Dream". So far, it takes money to make money, most (well 50% of America) is living paycheck to paycheck. They can't invest. Further, things that support them...social programs, roads, retirement, healthcare, are more and more expensive. So it's the old story, it takes money to make money, but in this case, it's also f-ing up the entire American economy. Long term, it's a disaster. You HAVE to drive some money into the middle class to give them a chance, if you don't, nobody will buy your stuff! Globalization is still a problem, sure, but...
