German Chamomile tea, commercial bags from the coffee/tea aisle of the grocery store.
NOT English Chamomile.
The tea chilled, can be used as a wash - use a soaked cotton ball to apply.
It is both antibacterial and antifungal, and soothes all sorts of itches and irritations in people and pets.
And it's totally harmless.

treated for fleas and ear mites already but still scratching

no neutering till he's back in shape and complete pre-op panels are run. the vet the rescue uses is not doing gas anesthesia but injectable - not suitable for him at all in my friend's opinion and i agree.
morning, frannie and tweety!![]()

yup, lots of possibilities and the rescue is using a vet providing bare-bones service ...........Did your vet recommend (performed) skin cytology? There may be other nasties living in his skin that need to be treated. Trust me, I've been through all this with Hershey. What helped was aloe vera gel (I have several plants and just cut a leaf as needed, but health food stores sell good organic pure AV gels), Epsom salts, and AVC (apple cider vinegar, organic, raw, with "mother,", diluted with water as it may sting--kills nasties and is soothing). Of course, there are other remedies for itchy skin. You probably know about them, as well as good soothing doggie wipes--I had a box of every kind...
Just remember that general anesthesia carries its own risks in older patients, canine and human alike.
lots of that in my cabinetTibs...

so funny though that everybody has a different preference: tweety swears by aloe, my vet friend is partial to witch hazel and so far, i opted for coconut oil infused with garlic
