That was my point. That, and they don't publish their calcs/numbers. Just output data. Or raw input data. Formula and variables missing.

They also don't publish co-morbidities, Atty. Most (not all) of the people who succumb to this nasty virus have at least one (often more than one) serious disease--kidney and liver failure, heart condition, diabetes, cancer, etc., which are very dangerous and potentially lethal all by themselves, especially in the elderly...

I'm thinking about my BIL who died last year in an assisted living home here in CA 3 months after being diagnosed with kidney and liver failure. Had he contracted COVID-19 at that time, he would have been classified as a COVID-19 mortality... Just my own personal anecdote.

That said, of course you're right. It's tragic and I hope we'll be able to bend this deadly curve soon and save all those most vulnerable among us. This is a nasty bug and we all have to do what we can to get rid of it ASAP.

I have 2 kids with health issues. My oldest has had 3 heart attacks. He’s the TT driver.

Keep them isolated as much as you can--if you can. They need to stay away from all possible sources of infection. So sorry, Frannie, but the good news is that social distancing does work. If you can do it.

I know. But what's that have to do with the point?
Their numbers look overly-optimistic to me. That's all.
    But I hope they're right.

i've not gotten to the bottom of that yet :?: not sure what the procedure is here - in france and spain covid-19 mortalities are counted only through hospitals; deaths occurring in nursing homes etc are left out. germany does covid testing after the fact in those facilities and seems to include them. grey area here - i'm sure in hot spots attention is being paid, in other places your guess is as good as mine ;)

Then make sure he's very particular about mitigation strategies--hand sanitizer, hand washing, not touching his face, wearing a mask or even a bandana around his face and glasses (of any kind) when he's around people, 6 feet distance, disposable gloves, etc. Make sure he has sanitizing wipes on hand at all times.

Don't listen to those stupid W.H.O. "experts" who tell us that masks don't work--they do. You don't need an N95 mask--those are for hospital workers. But a simple surgical mask will do the job. If he can't get a surgical mask, seriously, any scarf will do. But it will have to be washed daily.

The problem is, nobody knows for sure what's going on. This is all new to the healthcare workers as well. We were caught with our pants down wtr to testing--Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, i.e., had a lot of experience with previous epidemics and they learned from them so they started testing (and tracking the infected people) from the get-go. But we're catching up. The new rapid tests from Abbott Labs will make all the difference, the antibody tests likewise, some therapeutics look promising also. Only time will tell.
