    No you can't
Went to supermarket, both freezers filled to the top. Got the ice cream but forgot the topping. Oh well I'll get it from CVS - twice the price.

@AttyPops I ain't making no pies from scratch. Mrs. Smith pies 3/10.00 Pumpkin, Apple and Cherry. Good enough for us.

    Well, sort-of good news.

The generator starts up now. It wouldn't even start before.
But it isn't staying running. So IDK.
Going to have to dig in some more.
Tried bypassing any oil sensor (it has oil in it) and no joy.
    Groan.

But it started right up in 2 pulls! :) Now to get it to keep running! ;)

Look for a kink or pin hole in the rubber hose at the carb. Fact is if it has any age on it, it could be collapsing. I suggest changing it.

good luck, atty - at least you can be sure that somehow it's not getting any fuel ;)

awaiting the boy - if i'm scarce y'all know why!
Yeah, or bad oil sensor shutting it down. I DOES start up well. IDK yet.
I could order a carb rebuild kit. Or just a whole new carb for that matter, only 25.00 plus shipping.

But if it's the oil sensor, then a new carb won't fix it. And then it's the electronics, and I've tried disconnecting what I can, so after that it's probably got to go in for service.

If a new carb is that cheap I'd go for it. Most likely a fuel issue.

does this thing have a float that might be stuck, atty?
Yes, but it was cleaned and probably not stuck. If it stuck it wouldn't start multiple times since no gas could ever get in, I would think. Or it's stuck open and is flooding out but I'm not sure that's right since it doesn't act flooded when restarting.

This carb has a solenoid on the bottom that cuts off the fuel, used by the oil sensor. If that system is bad somewhere, that solenoid system won't function and it will cut off the fuel. Then the generator turns off and it all resets. But IDK how to bypass it. Just unplugging it doesn't work. Can't (yet) find where to unplug just the sensor.

It could be that, or it could be slow-gas-flow. Not air related, I don't think.

I'll work on it a bit at a time, do more research. If I replace that carb and it still has the problems, I'll be ticked at myself. Although Fran's idea has a decent shot at fixing it too, I want to try other "free" things first, just for fun.
