I'll have to consider the alligator next year.:p Not that i'm adverse to eating it... just never thought about it during The Masters. Philly cheesesteak here. Regardless, it's my favorite golf tournament and quite possibly my favorite sporting event. It just has this air about it that nothing in the sporting world has. And, they haven't destroyed it with politics... yet.

and that's as it should be ;)

I decided to go with the Pfizer this past Saturday because I needed/wanted to have both shots finished at least a week before i left for Florida. I really wanted the J&J shot, but no guarantee it would be available. Of course, I got the email yesterday offering J&J every day for the rest of this week. Dang it!:-x

Breakthrough rate meaning the ability for those vaccinated to transmit the virus? I don't care. And the fact is not established.

no, it refers to those who do not respond to the vaccine. always a few in the crowd ;)

morning, pepper! :)

The breakthrough rate is what % of the vaccinated population will not achieve immunity against [tested criteria] after waiting the requisite time. In this case that [criteria] was "shows symptoms for CV-19" (maybe simplified a bit).

So just comparing "how many showed symptoms" to the total vaccinated population isn't really the metric. Although it is a valid metric to track over time, that's really "% symptomatic vaccinated population" not "% of significantly-exposed population that showed symptoms anyway".

You'd have to compare the symptomatic rate of the unvaccinated population with the symptomatic rate of the vaccinated population. That number is basically how you get to "breakthrough", because it accounts for exposure. And you make a general assumption that the two group's exposure rates are the same (and that's risky outside of a controlled study...like when you vaccinate the elderly first, because they don't have the same behavior patterns as the general public).
