And...
JUST TODAY, TODAY, mind you, I heard the term "spirit cats". In very basic terms,
it's a cat (or plural) that live in your home but you rarely see or with you interact.
They spend their lives hiding or purposely remaining out of sight. You provide for
them, but that's pretty much it.
She did that at my Dad's. Many of my visits did not include seeing her. And rarely
would she allow him to pet her. He could pet her. Me... she wanted me to draw back
a bloody stump.
Many theories and/or guesses as to "why".
Some can be brought out of their shell after a change in that kind of life. And others
just stay that way.
So, if you're adopting... it's super-important to spend extended time with them BEFORE
bringing home.
She's pretty much living in a closet. She eats, drinks, poops and pees. But never in view.

Getting set to watch the 2021 (aka NEW) version of the DUNE movie - part 1 of 2, coming out on HBO Max at 6:00 pm ET as it also hits theaters today . (This has ticked off many an actor, director, etc...same-day premier on streaming cuts into theater sales and also screws up their box-office "stats". I, of course, have no problem with it at all. No way I'm going to see it in a theater on a Thursday night anyway. I might go see it sometime, but I might not. And then there's this CV-19 thing...)

i'm familiar with that type of cat, bear - i have one! and, amazingly, she is the kitten i handled most but once out of the kitten stage i have not been able to touch her. she comes when called to spend the night indoors but that's about it. but .... she does cuddle with her sisters and mom and i'm hoping ty-grr and claire will find a way to include her eventually.
