Maybe you know this already, IDK, but if not, you are entitled to the benefit of whoever had the higher SS. For example, if that was your husband you are entitled to receive the difference between what you normally receive plus his (equaling his max).
After my Dad passed away my Mom got his SS benefit because his was the higher benefit.
