Oh... and also have three calls to be returned (to me... but I have THEIR numbers in case I get impatient):

1. From NY exchange person who will watch, remotely, as I try to navigate the site (I hope they have a LOT of time)
2. From local provider to set up appointment to get ACA rates via paper application
3. From local provider's Medicare representative (their plan is called "Option Care", a managed care plan) for appointment to apply in-person

Good morning y'all

been sidetracked reading http://www.reddit.com/r/askscience/comments/1nikjj/scientists_please_discuss_how_the_government/

(and ETA, yep my state is one of those that declined to set up a state ACA system....because the deep south believes in states rights and less government interference, so they're perfectly willing to use the federal system without contributing anything from the state. But, even though many/most people here profess deep religious beliefs that include the stricture that they care for others, the people that they judge to be unworthy are allowed to crash and burn)

Hmmmm, makes me wonder how this is affecting "my old department" - is the EPA still up and running? :D

This is what I am greeted with on The Exchange:

"You are not eligible to receive help paying for your health insurance coverage. However you can purchase a qualified health plan through the Marketplace at full cost. If your circumstances change, you may contact the Marketplace to have your eligibility re-determined."

Needless to say, I am now ON THE FREAKING PHONE.

Today:

... driveway being re-sealed (for free) due to merde-y first job
... attempt yet again to get ACA plan prices
... accept 2014 landscaping quote
... accept exterior door work (assorted things) quote
... catch up on eMail
... wait (and wait and wait) for "last night"'s carving photos :glare:

Let's see... where am I at this point...

... accept 2014 landscaping quote

While I do have rates for my preferred provider (in the event I decide not to go Medicaid), it appears I will need to pay full shot (no subsidy) if I do NOT go through the website... and then get subsidy refund in April 2015 at tax time.

"Why?" you may ask?

Because I answered ONE question wrong online.

"Why can't you fix it?" you may ask.

Because the system does NOT allow it. The answer is (currently) cast in stone.

"Why can't they make the change for you?" you may ask.

Because they are not allowed, nor will they ever BE allowed, to DO that FOR us.

"Will they ever allow you to change it?" you may ask.

By December 15th when the site will be fully functional. (Problem is, December 15th is the deadline for signing up through the website.)

"What is the question that is currently cast in stone that totally :censored:ed everything up?" you may ask.

"Do you want financial assistance in paying for your health care premiums in 2014?" STUPID STUPID STUPID me thought "financial assistance" was equal to "subsidy" (which, of course, I want) or even "tax credit" (which I would want, too). What they meant by "financial assistance" was, in essence, Medicaid. Once you say YES to that question, you are locked out, forever, in being able to buy a provider plan through the exchange.

I am unhappy.
