Sorry Bear, that sucks and i hope you can get it changed :(

Yeah... it does, and I hope so, too.

Where I am now is: I do NEED to sign up for an ACA plan to have coverage Jan14-Mar14. That time period is when my Medicaid application will be in progress. They're saying "up to 90 days" for determination. I do not want to go 1 day without health care coverage.

ETA:
You cannot pre-date (or is it post-date??? dunno) a Medicaid application. When it's filled out, it must be for "right now" and not "what it will be". Hence the wait until first business day of 2014.

Apparently they expanded medicaid criteria. So if you get that, maybe you don't get ACA. So do you qualify for medicaid with 2 people and 16K income?

Expanded Medicaid is $15,851 or less for one person. I'm applying for myself. Our finances are separate. We are not related. I will qualify.

But, see above post: I need an ACA plan Jan14 to get me through the Medicaid application process.

So you're factoring husbear out of the equation. Although it's household income. That gets confusing. Same confusion with non-married relatives or people that live together (brothers or sisters share apartment, Parents/kids, two roomies) how do they define "household income when they file separately?).

I suppose if you crank the #'s with 2 people and both incomes that won't work at all...way over.

So OK, you file separately. And what were your costs for plans?

For all anybody knows, Husbear is "a friend" and his income is NOT part of "household income". (BTW: The term "Husbear" is only a euphemism for "HusBAND". Just a "term of endearment". We are not legal spouses OR domestic partners.)

If I can get a plan THROUGH the Marketplace:
Gold = $168
Platinum = $238

If the Marketplace continues to shut me out:
Gold = $393
Platinum = $463

Besides, you only need a few hundred less in income. Donate?

The $16000 you see in the above image is so I can buy through the Marketplace ("exchange") for Jan14-Mar14.

When I go to apply for Medicaid (in person... one does NOT apply for Medicaid through the Marketplace), my income will be $15500... people's income situations DO change.

You're supposed to use what you think it WILL BE. It get reconciled at tax time.

So why the two figures?

Like I said:

If I think it "will be" $15500, I cannot get an ACA plan for Jan-Mar. I would qualify for Medicaid. HOWEVER, I canNOT apply for Medicaid "ahead of time". I MUST wait until Jan14. It takes 90 days for the application process. I do not want to be without coverage for 90 days. .... happens. So... I am claiming $16000 so I can get a "temporary" ACA plan.

And at tax time, my MAGI will be $15500. I am able to control that amount.

i'm not sure, bear, but helping a friend 2 yrs ago with the medicare application which also shows about a 90-day approval time when his coverage kicked in it was RETROACTIVELY!
maybe that's a point to clear up with the help of your 'navigator'?

back to cleaning ....................

Yes... it is 90-day retroactive from the date of application... IF YOU ARE APPROVED. While >>>I<<< see no problem in qualifying, one never knows what merde they can pull out of a hat to say one does not qualify. That is the reason I want to work with that Medicaid law lawyer ASAP. And if I am not approved, I still want coverage for Jan-Mar via an Exchange policy... which I can then keep in force if need be for the rest of the year.
