calm down, bear! a visit to an ear/nose/throat specialist should be covered with just your copay. as to the deductible, 1200 isn't all that bad. and you will be surprised what happens to lab and other charges once they get submitted to the insurance company. my comprehensive blood tests which the hospital had billed at over 1000 bucks mysteriously got whittled down to about 90 bucks i was responsible for ............ same thing has happened with x-rays, etc

There is no co-pay until the $1200 (actually, $1250 in 2013) is met.

But even if the co-pay is, say, $40 like with the ENT, there is STILL the 20% co-insurance. So a $200 visit goes to $160 (after co-pay) and I pay an additional $32... $72 total for me. Now, like you said, if the insurance company only "allows" $140 for the ENT visit, I still have to cough up an additional $20 (+40 = 60).

we're all just stunned at the deductible......

Actually, New York has one of the nation's lowest CDHP (ie: high-deductible plan) deductibles.

But, NY requires CDHP insurees to set up an HSA, which can be funded with pre-tax - and tax-free - money. A 1-time chance. If one uses after-tax money to pay medical stuff, it can be written off.
