I'm tired just reading about how much outside stuff you are doing Bear. But, it also sounds kind like fun.

I hope you get your carved bears before fall.

Re: all the stuff... it's all good! It rained last night (finally!!!) and looks threatening today, so the non-topsoil-related stuff can get done today.

If I get the carving before JULY, then I will be (semi-)pleased.

About the "stellar news" I mentioned... Husbear may go back on NIGHTS for "six weeks". (The "six weeks" last year turned into over six MONTHS). His thought is that it will be extra $$$ for him (they get a per-hour premium for working graveyard). I told him to multiply that amount by 40 hours by 6 weeks and ADD 10%... I will PAY him a lump sum to NOT go on nights. It was hell last year. Had to tippy tippy toe around the house and yard while he slept. This is HIS choice, yes or no. He says he would take the opportunity to apply for other positions within the company (and interview) during the day. RUBBISH he will. I am NOT happy right now.

Thought:

Dig hole. Put anchor in, fill with lose sand. Put pole on. Lock it plumb. Fill hole with water. Let it settle and fill remaining part of hole with the rest of the sand. Like planing a tree using water fill method...only a Shepard's hook instead.

I have LOTS of loose sand hanging around!!!

The anchor needs to be very solid... there will be three fairly heavy hanging pots up 7 feet from it. It'll get done... just walk away from it and do something else for a while. Speaking of which...

The Summer heat and humidity down there would do me in. I will stay right where I am, thank you.

OK... back out with me!

Bwa-ha...

I was looking at a Kodak group on LinkedIn and the subject of the current "diversity profile" came up. Some hairy-forearmed feminist said: "Lacking diversity weakens the company and reduces the chances for innovation. (omfg!!!) So many options - limitless really - when the team welcomes input from diverse markets and embraces new ideas (jhca!!!) rather than clinging to the past. In addition to that overall, when your customer base is largely female (news to me!!!), it makes good sense to have a few on your team."

 x 1,000,000

I was unaware that the majority of commercial printer purchasers were women!!! Who'da thunk it?!?!

So, I replied with:

"I had access to EK Lotus Notes until June 2012. It was interesting that no mass mailings were done regarding the annual EOE/diversity/values "recertification exams". Those usually had to be completed by some time in the first half of the year. Have they scrapped them? Seemed to me there was no "embracing" of anything going on at that point. Maybe somebody who is still there can chime in if those tests are required in 2013.

I do have to say that it feels great not being ORDERED what I MUST think/say in retirement.

What is the "diversity profile" for companies buying commercial printers?"

Note the bolded statement. I stir the pot because I CAN!

That's pretty permanent, yes??? I'm trying this in a new location this year... and I may want to move it again next year.

I use that stuff for the mailbox/paper post. Each time the post gets creamed by a plow or errant car, I have to dig a new hole in a slightly different spot because of old cement. You will suggest putting in a VERY substantial post. I will counter that a steel I-Beam would not stand a chance against a 50mph municipal plow. It would get broken off like a toothpick. *ping!*

Actually I wouldn't counter with a heavy post. Not good if a car hits it. I'd rather it sheered.

However, for the hole for the flower pot pole thing....depends on how thick the crete is I guess. The weight of the flowers + wind will make it move in anything other than crete, IMHO. So if you think it bothers you NOW to get the pole aligned, wait until you have to dig it up every month........

:2c:

Maybe just cement in a pipe to hold the pole. Make sure it is below grade. Then burry the pipe + crete if you move it. Get new pipe and crete for move.
