Actually I wouldn't counter with a heavy post. Not good if a car hits it. I'd rather it sheered.

If they are on my lawn, I don't care what "happens" if they hit it.

I wanted - many years ago - to get 8 or so of those HUGE HUGE boulders to place fairly close to the edge of the property by the road (the property is on the inside of a 70-degree curve in the road) because there was a spate of cutting-across incidents. I was told by the town that they get to dictate "stuff" up to 20 feet onto MY property from the road and they would not allow it. So I asked if I could have my property taxes decreased by the square-footage that THEY have say about... and if THEY would take over the lawn cutting. THEY were unamused.

So now, I just do not trim the gigantic pine... and let the branches pretty much obscure the line of sight around the curve. It's to be taken at a posted 20mph, so vehicles have PLENTY of reaction time, if need be. And, I do know the town would take it upon themselves to trim the tree if it posed an actual threat.

Hmph.

So there.

Nyah.

If it helps at all grumpy Bear,

I am not always "grumpy" you know.

ETA:
I think I am very HAPPY, truth be told. Happier now, more than ever because there is more freedom and room to move.

Actually, I think many people are labeled as "grumpy" because they say what they feel. These days, EVERYTHING has to be sugar-coated and lightened-up and respectful and "embrace"-y... and that makes any kind of PERCEIVED negative thought, actions and word appear as "grumpy". In reality, it's how it SHOULD be. People and their freaking "issues"!!!!
