Sorry to hear that Fran :( It's in the 50s here, but I really wanted to open the windows and get some air. I'll have to close them soon...the rain is on the way. Hopefully the rain will start to melt some of that ice soon, it can't all possibly stay frozen in those conditions. I've read that food thaws faster under cold running water. I don't remember the science behind it, though...

Compared to air. Yes.

Hmmmmm
But...temp diff counts too. Warmer water would thaw faster than cold (but put the outside of the food in "the danger zone" for bacteria)

So rain will melt stuff faster than moderate air (disregarding sunlight factors) due to thermal mass differences. Also moving air is more effective for similar reasons (it doesn't conduct heat well...so you end up with a molecule or two's thick layer conducting heat and everything else being "above"...if static..but if moving, it changes over). Hence convection ovens.

The 60,000 dollar question is: Is is better to be sunny (my bet) or rainy? That sun has a lot of power! But snow is reflective and gets all latticed...

So it's probably rain if the rain is fairly warm. But sun (particularly on a blacktop road) should not be discounted!

Flyby. ~~~~~ all.

Working on dinner. Chilli. With:

Corn Fritters
4 ears worth of corn - 2 whole and 2 grated
1 egg
3 T corn meal
3 T AP flour
2 T heavy cream
1/2 T salt
pinch of CP
1 minced shallot
optional ...some sugar or honey (if you're a Yankee)

about 1/4 oil in frypan
fry in shallow oil for about 1 minute per side

-OR-

Authentic Alabama Hot water corn pone:
1 cup cornmeal
1 t salt
3/4 cup boiling water
1 1/2 T melted fat

Bake in oven in a buttered dish until done and brown (no temp given)

Got a better recipe?

We have 50 degrees. WooHoo. Rain....Bah.
Same here.....although it's better than the white stuff, right?? :)
........and.........what's missing???

Green onion? (I don't have shallots...I'm using either green onion, or omitting them...undecided yet)
Baking powder?
I wish I knew....that recipe looked fine to me, but I don't make fritters often.

I also wish I'd never laid eyes on the FDA comments thread....I need to borrow your rubber band, Atty.....

Since Tibs won't help, maybe I'll make standard cornbread. But it makes a whole 10" cast iron skillet of it. Too much.

but it's excellent for breakfast and/or snacks! ;)

just teasing you, atty! ;) doyour green onions have the stalks? those compare favorably to shallots
